Episode 005: Interview with Karin Harrell
Posted on January 14th, 2019.
Happy New Year! We welcome 2019 by spending time with our guest, violinist Karin Harrell, talking about endurance events, violin playing, what she did and didn't learn in music conservatory, and the new adventure of going back to school to study Occupational Therapy. Karin performs all over the country with different orchestras and ensembles but currently calls Dallas her home. We caught up with her between the dress rehearsal and concert and discussed how she keeps in touch with the people she cares about (all over the country), what she eats before performances and athletic events and how she carries knowledge from one aspect of life into another. Enjoy!
Violinist Karin Harrell performs with several symphony orchestras throughout The United States. These include the Columbus symphony, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Dallas Chamber Symphony, Tulsa symphony, East Texas symphony, Akron symphony, and Canton symphony, among others. Besides her engagements in symphony orchestras she also enjoys performing occasionally in smaller ensembles, chamber concerts, live bands, country bands, and rock concerts.
Ms Harrell also teaches private violin students in the Dallas area.
While growing up she won several prizes and competitions which resulted in solo performances with orchestras including the Columbus Symphony and the Casals Festival Orchestra among others. Ms Harrell was a participant at The Casals Music Festival, the Texas Music Festival, Kent/Blossom music festival, and National Repertory Orchestra.
She graduated with both a Bachelors of Music and Masters of Music from The Cleveland Institute of Music. While there she studied with David Updegraff and William Preucil.
